I was raised in Miles City, Montana. (Editor’s note: Alfred also did training in the Army around the US in Texas, Kentucky, Tennessee, etc. but Montana was mainly where he stayed.)

We started going to church, and that is where I met Robert. He ignored me for a year, and then we finally started dating. He was in the men’s choir, and he has a wonderful voice. We got married when I was 18 and he was 19, just out of high school. On June 5, we will be married for 75 years. He is a good man.

“Especially from my dad, I learned to live a very honest life. He was known as Honest Abe. When he did something, he did it well. He did it good the first time, so he didn’t have to go back around again.”
“Our family used to have a big trailer that we would take on all kinds of road trips. We travelled all the way from California to Alaska! And another time we did a road trip to the Grand Canyon. We travelled to so many places and stopped at everything.”
For this special resident spotlight, we interviewed four centenarians to learn about the similarities and differences in their lives over the past 100 years.
“The hardest thing I’ve gone through has been going through medical school. I had many long hours, especially in residency, and having a wife and a son at the time, it sure was tough. My wife was very supportive, and that is how I got through it.”
“I taught just about every subject and really liked the kids. My dad was a teacher, and I loved being able to follow in his footsteps.”
