Have you lived in other places besides Lynden?
Yes. I was born in Iowa. My family moved around the Midwest a lot due to my father being a minister. I also lived in Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas.
What was your first job?
My first job was babysitting. I later got a degree in the food service and catering industry. I learned about cake decorating, event planning and everything in between.
What is one of your favorite memories?
I played flute in the school band. We traveled to another school and played in a concert with the Navy band.
What was your favorite decade to live in, and why?
I liked the ’60s and ’70s. That is when I learned to sew my own clothes and to appreciate what I had.
Do you have a favorite song, inspirational quote, or Bible verse?
My favorite hymn is “Because He Lives” by Bill Gaither. My favorite Bible verses are Jer. 31:3 and John 3:16. Reading the Bible, going to church and helping to cheer others in any way I can are what get me through my health challenges.
What is one thing most people don’t know about you, but you wish they did?
I enjoy shopping for bingo prizes when I’m out and about, and I like seeing the smiles on my friends’ faces when they win one.
What is one thing that you like about living at CHCC?
I never expected to be in a wheelchair or have health problems, but I love CHCC for the caring staff and the activities, like bingo. I also love it when the animals—especially Buttercup, the mini horse—come to visit.
