Since its founding in 1956, Christian Health Care Center has placed a priority on caring for vulnerable older adults, including people living with dementia challenges. Our decades of experience, helpful technology, a well-designed building and robust training are reasons why CHCC continues to be a trusted eldercare provider in Whatcom County.
Dementia refers to a group of symptoms affecting memory, thinking and social abilities severely enough to interfere with daily functioning. Here are some common types of dementia:
Alzheimer’s Disease. This is the most common type, characterized by memory loss, difficulty solving problems and confusion. It progresses gradually over time.
Vascular Dementia. This is caused by reduced blood flow to the brain, often due to stroke or other blood vessel conditions. Symptoms can vary depending on the affected area of the brain.
Lewy Body Dementia. Linked to abnormal protein deposits (Lewy bodies) in the brain. Symptoms include hallucinations, fluctuating cognitive abilities and movement disorders similar to Parkinson’s disease.
Frontotemporal Dementia. FTD affects the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, leading to changes in behavior, personality and language abilities.
Mixed Dementia. Involves more than one type of dementia simultaneously, often Alzheimer’s disease combined with vascular dementia.
Understanding the specific type of this unfortunate disease is crucial for appropriate management and care planning.
Peace of mind can be hard to come by when family members or other loved ones are living with dementia or issues related to memory. However, when they can live safely in a skilled nursing center that combines professional and compassionate care, that can be a huge burden lifted.
CHCC works hard to provide just such a place for all who need it. Dementia care admissions at CHCC are accepted on a case-by-case basis. Please call social services at 360-354-4434 for additional information and to schedule an assessment.
