Did you know that long-term care residents in Whatcom County and throughout Washington state have been living without communal activities and social interactions since March 11, 2020?

While many citizens have resumed “normal” activities, the people who live in long-term care continue to live each day in a form of isolation, and they will continue to do so until COVID-19 is reduced in our community.

Your help is essential! That is why we are renewing our commitment to the prevention pledge — first published in August 2020 — and encouraging our community to do the same.

The healthier our local community is, the sooner people living in long-term care will be able to resume indoor communal gatherings, such as eating meals in the dining room, attending worship services and participating in group activities designed for socializing.

Only with your help can CHCC and other long-term care centers in our area progress through the phases of Washington state’s Safe Start for Long-Term Care reopening plan to a level that allows communal activities within the walls of care centers and, eventually, in person visits with family members.

Please renew your commitment to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases in our community by participating in this prevention pledge.

Download a pledge sheet and post it in your home as a reminder that hand-washing, social distancing, wearing masks and getting vaccinated are things that we do for our own personal wellness and for the sake of others.

We know this is hard, and we know that people have grown weary; however, there is still work to be done, and we must not give up the fight against COVID-19! We will be safer and stronger when we work together. Thank you.
