Have you lived in places besides Lynden?
Yes, I was born and raised in Seattle. I raised my family in Shoreline. I had three girls and one boy. My son passed away.
What was your first job?
I was always ice skating. I was a figure skater from age 10 onward, and it was my passion. My aunt was a national skating judge. I taught skating in San Diego, California, and other places. I was in the Ice Capades and toured with them for 2-3 years. My whole life was centered around my love for skating.
What other types of work did you do before retiring?
I loved raising my family and have lots of great memories of that time. My husband was a professional skier, and we spent so much time on the mountain that our kids were called “hill brats.”
What was your favorite thing about the work you did?
Everything! I loved everything about skating! I got to meet Dorothy Hamill and many other wonderful people.
What is the one thing that you have been most proud of in your life?
I have been most proud of my family. I have a crazy, wild family, and we have had so much fun! Every day was like a new episode of “Where’s Waldo.”
What is the hardest thing you’ve lived through, and how did you get through it?
Losing my parents, if I have to say. I just accepted it and lived with it the best I could.
What was your favorite decade and why?
I liked them all; I don’t have a favorite. If it isn’t fun, don’t do it!
Who is your favorite author or musician?
I love all music and skated to all types of music, from classical to popular tunes.
Do you have a favorite song, inspirational quote, or Bible verse?
My favorite song is “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Judy Garland.
What is one life lesson you learned from your parents?
Be yourself and give it all you’ve got!
What is one piece of advice you would give a 16-year-old person?
Be yourself and follow your dreams!
What is one thing that most people don’t know about you, but you wish they did?
I figure skated from age 10 to age 75, and I never lost my love for the sport!
What is one thing that you like about living at CHCC?
I love it here! CHCC has a good feel to it. It’s a fun place. I felt comfortable from the moment I came in.
