CHCC team members gently collect ducklings that hatched in the courtyard at CHCC.

Here at Christian Health Care Center, the “tradition of caring” in Christ’s name continues for all residents… including those of the feathered kind.

Every year, like clockwork, a duck or two hatches her eggs in our enclosed courtyard. One year, neighboring crows became the cruel enemies of the ducklings. Though Momma Duck did her best to protect them, she was no match for the many crows that gathered that year.

Every year since then, there has been the “rescue of the ducklings” by various team members of CHCC. They undertake the rescue effort of often a dozen ducklings from the courtyard, culminating in the incredible reunion of Mother Duck and ducklings on the nearby waters of Fishtrap Creek.

Truly, each day at CHCC presents varying challenges and blessings, and one never knows exactly what to expect. That is the beauty of working here! Our jobs at CHCC are not just about earning a paycheck but are all about serving. To work here is to be a part of that grand equation of loving Christ by loving others, helping the least of these, of participating in the pure and undefiled religion of helping others, and of assisting even helpless ducklings to have the opportunity to live.

Momma Duck says, “Thank you! Keep up the good work, CHCC!”
