Christian Health Care Center is a well-respected and award-winning skilled health care center located in Lynden, recognized for its wonderful nurses, contributions to the long-term care industry and overall high standards when it comes to eldercare. Below are a few of the awards and recognitions given to our Whatcom healthcare center.

Best of Lynden 2025

CHCC recognized as a Best of Lynden award winner

Christian Health Care Center is proud to be a trusted part of the Lynden community. Over the years, community members have repeatedly voted CHCC as the best adult care and assisted living provider in town.

The Best of Lynden awards, hosted by the Lynden Tribune and Lynden Chamber of Commerce, invite locals to celebrate outstanding organizations across a range of categories. We are deeply grateful for the continued support and trust of our neighbors—it’s an honor to serve you!

Christian Health Care Center Comagine Health COVID-19 vaccination award

CHCC wins vaccination recognition

CHCC has once again received the COVID Mitigation Medal from Comagine Health.

The medal recognizes vigilance and excellence in infection control and prevention efforts at long-term and postacute care centers. The COVID-19 pandemic surfaced many new problems and compounded existing ones, but CHCC worked hard to keep residents, staff and the community safe by limiting the spread of COVID-19.

CHCC was one of two facilities north of Everett to win this award.

CHCC also was one of just two long-term care centers in Washington state to receive the COVID Mitigation Medal from Comagine Health for the last quarter of 2022.

Tonja Myers is Business Person of the Year Nominee (opens in a new tab)

Tonja Myers, Christian Health Care Center’s executive director, is motivated by the chance to make a positive impact on people’s lives through her work.

She has been a licensed administrator in the long-term care industry for more than three decades and has a great deal of experience managing staff and operations. CHCC residents and staff have been blessed by her abilities since 2015, when she joined CHCC as an administrator.

Throughout the pandemic, she diligently worked to protect her residents and staff in every way possible.

CHCC wins vaccination recognition (opens in a new tab)

Christian Health Care Center has been recognized by the Washington State Department of Health as an LTC COVID-19 Immunization Champion Awardee for the spring 2022 award cycle.

“There have been many barriers for all involved,” wrote the department in announcing the award, “and this award shows the deep dedication you have to help keeping your staff and residents protected from vaccine preventable diseases. We respect the work and continued commitment it takes to achieve these outcomes. Keep up the great work and dedicated effort going forward to vaccinate your staff.”

CHCC received a Gold Award for achieving a 96% staff COVID-19 immunization rate.

Carol and Bailey chosen for Sodexo CARES Award (opens in a new tab)

The Sodexo CARES Award is designed to recognize and promote outstanding customer service behaviors in Sodexo’s senior living communities. There are five CARES behaviors that, when followed, Sodexo believes will improve employees’ ability to deliver exceptional customer service to residents and other customers in a caring and professional way.

Those behaviors are compassion, accountability, respect, enthusiasm and service.

CHCC recognized for nursing performance (opens in a new tab)

CHCC was one of three organizations recognized by LeadingAge Washington (opens in a new tab) in 2020 for Best Performance in the Nursing category. LeadingAge Washington, of which CHCC is a member, serves as the voice for not-for-profit and mission-driven senior care and housing organizations, advancing both fundamental and innovative solutions to achieve an integrated system of quality post-acute and long-term supports and services for aging Washingtonians.

CHCC wins 2021 Best of Lynden award (opens in a new tab)

CHCC is well respected in the community, having been chosen multiple times by voters as the best adult care/assisted living facility in Lynden.

The annual Best of Lynden contest is put on by the Lynden Tribune and the Lynden Chamber of Commerce. Each year, readers vote on their top choices for local organizations in a variety of categories.

Lewis honored with award for mentorship (opens in a new tab)

Heather Lewis, director of nursing services at Christian Health Care Center, has been honored by LeadingAge Washington with the Dr. Herbert Shore Outstanding Mentor Award, presented during the organization’s 2021 Awards of Excellence ceremony.

CHCC recognized for success in ulcer prevention

Leading Care Network North West recognized CHCC for the quality of a presentation on ulcer prevention during a network quality committee meeting.

Nursing staff selected for advanced training (opens in a new tab)

Christian Health Care Center in Lynden is among 30 long-term care centers in the state of Washington chosen to participate in a special three-year program — one that provides advanced training to nurses and other team members while working to continuously improve the quality of care for older adults.

Director of nursing earns wound care certification (opens in a new tab)

Christian Health Care Center has taken a big step forward in its commitment to top-quality care. Heather Lewis, CHCC’s director of nursing, recently earned Wound Care Certified status from the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy.

CHCC named to Antimicrobial Stewardship Honor Roll (opens in a new tab)

The Washington State Department of Health honors and commends facilities that are working to improve antibiotic use, reduce antibiotic resistance, and improve patient outcomes by establishing an antibiotic stewardship program that meets CDC’s core elements of antibiotic stewardship.

Dietary manager earns ServSafe certification (opens in a new tab)

CHCC’s dietary manager, Carol DuBois, has become certified as a proctor for ServSafe, enabling her to administer and oversee food safety exams.

Dianne Anderson earns APIC certification (opens in a new tab)

Dianne Anderson’s achievement of APIC certification is a wonderful thing for Christian Health Care Center. This certification is important as CHCC strives to lead the way in infection prevention through increased regulatory oversight. Plus, it’s the right thing to do for our residents!

CHCC team member named Hometown Hero (opens in a new tab)

KAFE Radio recognized a member of Christian Health Care Center’s care team, Dianne Anderson, as a Hometown Hero in November 2018. Dianne was nominated for this award by Tonja Myers, CHCC’s administrator, who has worked with her for many years.

CHCC wins LeadingAge Award of Excellence (opens in a new tab)

Christian Health Care Center’s care transitions team was awarded the 2016 Excellence in Research and Education Award presented by Leading Age Washington. This award, a part of the Leading Age Awards Program, Awards of Excellence, recognizes individuals and organizations that have made an outstanding contribution in the fields of aging, health care, housing and community-based services.

Peace Builder Award (opens in a new tab)

The Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center has recognized and appreciated (opens in a new tab) that the dedicated care transition nurses at CHCC work every day to “bring peace of mind, body and spirit to patients, families and caregivers through compassionate and excellent communication, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.”

CHCC appreciated for contribution to research (opens in a new tab)

CHCC was recognized for our contribution to the national baseline for surveillance and reporting of Clostridium difficile infection in nursing homes for March through December 2017. CHCC’s voluntary participation and data contribution made possible the first ever national baseline of Clostridium difficile infection in U.S. nursing homes.

Whatcom in Bloom Award (opens in a new tab)

CHCC was awarded a 1st Place plaque during the 26th annual Whatcom in Bloom contest.

Judges took note of the private interior courtyard and beautifully maintained grounds that bring joy to the lives of residents and their loved ones.
