Giving Back
Christian Health Care Center continually strives to give back to our community, in Lynden and beyond. Whether sponsoring health-related programs, volunteering to serve on industry boards, or helping educate nursing professionals, our board and employees are willing to help.
Nursing assistant certification program: CHCC financially supports Lynden Healthcare Education as part of its mission to ensure that the health care needs of our community are met. LHE organizes free CNA training courses several times each year. Because of CHCC’s involvement, classes are offered at no cost to select students.
Aging Well Whatcom. The Aging Well Whatcom Initiative was launched by the Chuckanut Health Foundation in December 2017 to help make Whatcom County a more age friendly community. The goal of the group is to guide policy and funding decisions, program and service development, grassroots activism and business opportunities for the private sector. CHCC’s executive director, Tonja Myers, serves on the steering committee for the group.
Northwest Workforce Council: NWC is responsible for governance and oversight of the workforce development system in Whatcom, Skagit, Island and San Juan counties. Authorized under the federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA), the council convenes private and public sectors to address workforce development issues. CHCC’s executive director, Tonja Myers, serves on the board for the group.
LeadingAge Washington: LeadingAge Washington represents the interests of not-for-profit and mission-driven organizations dedicated to improving the aging experience of over 50,000 older Washingtonians and their family members. LeadingAge advocates for sound policy that promotes a healthy and balanced care environment always with a constant eye towards quality improvement. Our director of nursing services, Heather Lewis serves on the board of LAW, and our executive director, Tonja Myers serves as nursing home cabinet chair.
Community volunteer program: Volunteers have always played a vital role at Christian Health Care Center; volunteers were the driving force behind our formation in 1956. Dozens of individuals of all ages give their time and talents each year. In April 2011, Christian Health Care Center was recognized with a Heart in Hands award by Whatcom County Volunteer Center for its tremendous volunteer program.
Rotary International. The main objective of Rotary is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today’s most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. CHCC’s executive director, Tonja Myers, is an active member and past president of the Bellingham Bay Rotary.
