March 18, 2026: The influenza A outbreak at CHCC has officially ended, effective March 18. 

Communal dining and group activities will resume March 19.

We extend our sincere gratitude to residents and staff for their patience and cooperation during this time. These outbreaks are difficult for all who live and work here, so we’re excited to now have permission to return to regular scheduling.

Cumulative cases from the start of the influenza outbreak (Feb. 23):

  • Residents: 13
  • Staff: 6

March 16, 2026: Since our last report March 9, two residents tested positive for influenza A March 10.

Communal dining and activities remain paused at this time. All staff, volunteers, visitors and vendors must wear a surgical mask provided by CHCC when in resident care areas.

Cumulative cases from the start of the influenza outbreak (Feb. 23):

  • Residents: 13
  • Staff: 6

March 9, 2026: Since the date of our last report March 2, the following influenza cases have been reported:

  • March 3: One staff member tested positive
  • March 4: One resident and one staff member tested positive
  • March 5: One resident tested positive
  • March 6: One resident tested positive

Communal dining and activities remain paused at this time.

Residents are strongly encouraged to wear a surgical mask when around others. All staff, volunteers, visitors and vendors must wear a surgical mask provided by CHCC when in resident care areas. Everyone is also encouraged to use hand sanitizer before entering these areas.

  • Residents: 11
  • Staff: 6

March 2, 2026: Two residents and one staff member tested positive for influenza A March 1, and three residents tested positive March 2.

The Whatcom County Health Department advised us to pause communal dining and activities, effective March 1.

Precautions: Residents are strongly encouraged to wear a surgical mask when around others. All staff, volunteers, visitors and vendors must wear a surgical mask provided by CHCC when in resident care areas. Everyone is also encouraged to use hand sanitizer before entering these areas.

Cumulative cases from the start of the influenza outbreak (Feb. 23):

  • Residents: 8
  • Staff: 4

Feb. 27, 2026: One resident tested positive for influenza A Feb. 26, and one resident and one staff member tested positive Feb. 27.

The Whatcom County Health Department has advised us that communal dining and activities can remain open at this time.

Residents, visitors and vendors are encouraged to wear surgical masks when around others. CHCC staff and volunteers are required to wear masks when working in any resident area.

Cumulative cases from the start of the influenza outbreak (Feb. 23):

  • Residents: 3
  • Staff:3

Feb. 24, 2026: One staff member tested positive for COVID Feb. 18. The Whatcom County Health Department determined that case to be a community exposure, so it was not included in CHCC’s outbreak status.

The COVID outbreak that began Feb. 4 officially ended Feb. 23.

Cumulative cases from the start of the COVID outbreak (Feb. 4):

  • Residents: 2
  • Staff: 3

However, one resident tested positive for influenza A Feb. 23, which places CHCC back in outbreak status, and one staff member tested positive for influenza Feb. 24.

  • Staff: 1

Consenting residents will be tested according to health authority guidelines until CHCC is out of outbreak status.

Residents, visitors and vendors are encouraged to wear surgical masks when around others. CHCC staff and volunteers are required to wear masks when working in any resident area.

This Alert page will be updated every Monday (Tuesday if Monday falls on a holiday) if any positive COVID-19 tests were reported in the previous week. If no positive cases were reported during the previous week, the Alert page will not be updated.

CHCC will continue to test all staff and all consenting residents per local, state and federal guidelines. ​All staff members continue to be screened before they start work, and we monitor our residents daily, watching for any signs or symptoms of the virus. Infection control best practices are followed, and appropriate personal protective equipment is worn by all.
