In 2026, Christian Health Care Center marks 70 years of serving North Whatcom County. This milestone invites us to pause, reflect and give thanks for the people and partnerships that have shaped CHCC since its founding in 1956.
CHCC was created by the community, for the community. Local faith leaders saw a need for compassionate care close to home and came together to create a place where older adults and medically fragile neighbors could receive skilled nursing and rehabilitation care rooted in dignity, respect and faith. That original calling continues to guide us today.
Over seven decades, CHCC has grown alongside the community it serves. Care models have evolved, buildings have changed and medical needs have become more complex, but our purpose has remained the same: to provide skilled health care with compassion and love in Christ’s name. Generations of families have trusted CHCC during some of life’s most vulnerable moments, and that trust is something we hold with deep gratitude.
One of the most significant chapters in our history was the move from 205 S. BC Avenue to our current campus on Aaron Drive in 2001. That transition was made possible because the community stepped forward in meaningful ways. Churches, local businesses, families, volunteers and advocates rallied together to ensure CHCC could grow with North Whatcom County and continue meeting local needs. That spirit of shared responsibility and generosity remains one of our greatest strengths.

At the heart of CHCC’s story are the people who show up each day to serve. Over the years, countless staff members have dedicated their careers to caring for residents with skill and compassion. Many were drawn to this work not just as a job, but as a calling. Their commitment, professionalism and kindness have shaped CHCC’s culture and made it a place where people feel known and valued.
“As I reflect on CHCC’s 70-year history, I feel both humbled and grateful,” said Tonja Myers, executive director administrator. “To lead an organization that was built by faith, sustained by community support and carried forward by dedicated staff is a profound responsibility. This milestone is not about a building or an anniversary. It’s about people caring for people, year after year.”
As we honor the past, we also look ahead with purpose. The needs of our community continue to change, and CHCC remains committed to listening, adapting and serving faithfully. Being Called to Care means showing up with compassion today while preparing thoughtfully for tomorrow.
To every resident, family member, staff member, volunteer, donor and church who has walked alongside CHCC over the past 70 years, thank you. Your support has shaped our story, and your care has made our mission possible.
