As Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month unfolds every June, Christian Health Care Center’s commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for individuals living with memory loss becomes more meaningful.

Located in Lynden, Washington, CHCC offers tailored services designed to support individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Here, residents find more than just a place to reside—they discover a community dedicated to preserving dignity and enhancing quality of life.

CHCC was thoughtfully designed to meet the needs and maintain the dignity of people living with memory impairments. Our nursing staff and caregivers use compassion and proven dementia-care concepts to create a loving and enriching environment for those who live here. The building is laid out in a way that allows freedom of movement and mobility while maintaining safety. Wide interior corridors provide plenty of room for residents who like to move about the building, and fully enclosed courtyards offer walking paths, seating areas and landscaped gardens.

Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month: Spreading awareness and support

Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness

June is not just another month at CHCC—it’s Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. This annual observance is a reminder of the importance of understanding and addressing cognitive health issues. It’s a time to educate, advocate and recognize those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

Beyond CHCC doors, the Whatcom County community supports families and caregivers facing the challenges of memory loss. Several organizations and resources in the area collaborate to provide comprehensive support:

  • Dementia Support Northwest: They provide professional education and training to those likely to engage with those living with dementia through our partnership with our local Area Agency on Aging, the Northwest Regional Council in Bellingham. Training community groups and professionals alike promotes our vision for a more understanding, accepting, and supportive community for those affected by cognitive decline.
    • Amy’s Place: This is the new home of Dementia Support Northwest, located inside the Bellis Fair Mall.
  • Whatcom Council on Aging: Whatcom Council on Aging, in partnership with the people we serve, offers nutritional, health, social, recreational and educational programs that promote lifelong independence.
  • Alzheimer’s Society of Washington: Offers education, support groups and resources for individuals and families throughout the county.

Since its founding in 1956, Christian Health Care Center has placed a priority on caring for vulnerable and medically fragile older adults, including people living with dementia challenges. Our decades of experience, combined with helpful technology, a well-designed building and robust staff training, are reasons why CHCC continues to be a trusted eldercare provider in Whatcom County.
