Christian Health Care Center continually strives to give back to our community, in Lynden and beyond. Whether sponsoring health-related programs, volunteering to serve on industry boards, organizing teams for fund-raising events or helping educate nursing professionals, our board and employees are willing to help as able. Here are a few groups and associations we have been proud to support:
Free nursing assistant certification: CHCC is recognized by the Washington State Department of Health as an approved training program for nursing assistants. Several times each year we present free education classes specifically for those wishing to begin a career at our healthcare facility. Upon completion of the program, students are often offered full-time employment with benefits at CHCC.
Community volunteer program: Volunteers have always played a vital role at Christian Health Care Center; volunteers were even the driving force behind our formation over 50 years ago. Approximately 150 individuals of all ages give their time and talents each year. In April 2011, Christian Health Care Center was recognized with a Heart in Hands award by Whatcom County Volunteer Center for its tremendous volunteer program.
Cascade Vocational Services: Cascade Vocational Services provides volunteer and employment opportunities to people with disabilities and other special needs in Whatcom County. Since 2013, one of CVS’s participants has volunteered at CHCC on a weekly basis helping in our therapeutic recreation department.
Whatcom Hospice Foundation: Whatcom Hospice Foundation is an independent charitable organization comprised of dedicated volunteers and knowledgeable staff who raise funds and build community awareness in support of Hospice services in Whatcom County. Tonja Myers, CHCC’s administrator, serves on the board of directors for this organization.
Alzheimer Society of Washington: ASW educates people about dementia related diseases. They provide hope to those affected by offering support and resources. CHCC is a frequent event sponsor and our employees often organize a Miles for Memories Walk/Run team each year.
Washington Health Care Association: As an advocacy group, WHCA works to protect and promote the delivery of quality healthcare. They monitor proposed rules and regulations that impact long-term and post-acute care. Patrick O’Neill, CHCC’s CEO, currently serves on WHCA’s board.
Elder Service Providers: ESP provides information and educational opportunities to eldercare consumers and local professionals who serve senior citizens. CHCC is a member and frequent sponsor of the organization’s annual caregiver conference.
Northwest Workforce Council: NWC is responsible for governance and oversight of the workforce development system in Whatcom, Skagit, Island and San Juan counties. Authorized under the federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA), the council convenes private and public sectors to address workforce development issues. CHCC’s administrator, Tonja Myers, is currently serving as board chair for the group.
Lynden Chamber of Commerce: CHCC is a long-term member of this local business and community event organization.
North Whatcom County Relay for Life: Relay for Life helps people impacted by cancer to remember, celebrate and fight back. CHCC is a past event sponsor and our employees often organize a fundraising/walking team each year.
